- The federal government has defended its tough approach to parents on welfare who
don't send their children to school.
- A federal Labor MP has spoken out against the prime minister's commitment to keep
the building and construction commission running until 2010.
- A worker has been killed at an iron ore mine in the Pilbara.
- The Monash accident research centre says governments should look at better educating
young drivers before giving them a license rather than banning them from driving high
